TELL US A BIT ABOUT YOUR WORK.
Well I’m Clive, I like to make creative artwork in my spare time and I have done for the past 6 years. I’ve always made or created something over the years, either with clothing materials, woods or paints. Years on, and now I’m using resins, pigments powders, kirinite and polyester.
WHERE DID THE NAMES SNEEKS COME FROM?
I’ve been called Sneek from I was a teenager because I was very shy with the girls. But because I was always the sensible one out the bunch, I was always pushed to talk to them. But then, they were more interested in how funny and not rude I was, so my mates called me a sneek with the girls lol.
TALK US THROUGH YOUR CREATIVE PROCESS. WHERE DO YOU GET INSPIRATION FOR YOUR PIECES?
To be honest, I inspire myself because I want to remain bespoke, original, and unique. I may get colour ideas from other makers but I try my best not to copy others directly. I have way to many ideas in my head to even have the time to watch what others are doing! I mainly create to how I’m feeling at the time, as it’s all emotionally based. However my flow goes, it go’s.
HAVE YOU EVER TRIED SOMETHING DIFFERENT THAT WORKED OUT WAY BETTER THAN YOU THOUGHT IT WOULD?
Yes, I worked with brass and metal swarf mixed in resin, and my goodness the final finish was next-level! I definitely did do another piece working with brass and metal swarf.
WHAT IS THE MOST CHALLENGING HURDLE YOU' VE ENCOUNTERED WHEN USING GLITTERS AND PIGMENTS IN RESIN?
The most challenging things are: not mixing the resin long enough, making sure you keep dust levels low, mixing enough resin, and making sure room temperatures are OK. You also have to remember to keep checking the resin pigment mix. If I want a pattern to remain in the resin, I have to keep going back to check on it and use tooth picks to keep adding the patterns and shaping.
YOU MAKE INCREDIBLE PATTERNS IN YOUR RESIN, WHAT TIPS DO YOU HAVE FOR THE BEST RESULTS?
Find something like a cocktail stick, or anything like that. To keep the patterns in the resin, you must be very patient and go back to your piece 3-4 times until the resin seems ready to set. Roughly 30 mins after the pour, stick your cocktail stick in the resin and make circulars and lines. Keep your blow torch handy just incase of bubbles forming!
IF YOU HAD TO PICK, WHICH IS YOUR FAVOURITE HEMWAY COLOUR?
It has to be the blue pigments and pearl pigments!
WHERE CAN WE SEE MORE OF YOUR WORK? DO YOU EVER EXHIBIT IN GALLERIES?
Currently, my work is only on social networks but in 2022 it could be in one or two galleries, as there’s a few who are very interested! For now though, I’m on all major platforms.
